KUCHING, May 23: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) received an overwhelming turnout at its dedicated Sarawak government benefit open counter initiative today, with several service counters extending their operating hours to ensure that all visitors received the assistance they needed.

The initiative, spearheaded by MBKS, was held at its lobby from 8.30am to 12pm to assist members of the public in applying for a range of government benefits and services.

It is also part of MBKS’ ongoing effort to enhance public access to essential services and ensure that vulnerable groups, especially senior citizens and students, receive the support they need, MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said in a press release.

“We are greatly encouraged by today’s response, and it reaffirms our belief in people-centric governance that prioritises inclusivity, care, and accessibility,” he said.

Wee also expressed his sincere appreciation to Yayasan Sarawak, NADI, PERKESO, Community Leaders and Affin Bank for their strong collaboration and support in opening the service counters for the general public.

“Their participation made it possible for our residents to conveniently access vital services in one location,” he added.

The initiative is in line with MBKS commitment under the Child Friendly Cities Initiative and its programmes to support healthy and active ageing in the city.

The open counter provided assistance with several key government-related applications, including Kenyalang Gold Card and Senior Citizen Health Benefit (SCHB) programme for senior citizens, Special Financial Assistance (Bantuan Kewangan Khas) under Yayasan Sarawak for eligible students, Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) under NADI for B40 and M40 income groups, and Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS) and Housewife Social Security Scheme (SKSSR) under PERKESO.

The counter also offered services related to E-Billing registration and advisory on assessment rates, along with assistance from Affin Bank representatives to facilitate applications for the Kenyalang Debit Card.

MBKS reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to delivering responsive, community-focused services that ensure no resident is left behind in accessing the support they are entitled to. – DayakDaily
