KUCHING, Oct 15: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng has claimed that the government should take action against MYAirline for its sudden suspension, citing the airline as a ‘business fraud’ for failing to notify customers in advance of its financial crisis and was still accepting ticket purchases.
During the mayor’s 185th ShallWeeTalk, which was streamed live on his official Facebook page yesterday, Wee referred to MYAirline’s actions as ‘immoral’ and ‘unprofessional’ as the airline has caused hundreds of thousands of people to lose money and have their travel plans disrupted.
“Some people have saved a lifetime’s worth of money to travel, but their dreams have been crushed by the airline’s sudden suspension, and they are now unsure where or how to obtain a refund.
“Consumers were not informed in advance about the financial difficulties of MYAirline, and the company continued to accept ticket purchases. So, if this isn’t business fraud, what is?” he claimed.
Wee continued, “I think a similar case like this has happened more than once in Malaysia. This shouldn’t end up as something that will happen again.
“During this economy where things are not cheap, something like this happened, it is unacceptable that this has occurred.
“While your business may experience a decline, it is important to ensure that this does not have a negative impact on others. It is crucial to prevent any adverse effects on consumers as a result of your business’s decline.”
Additionally, the mayor asserted that the actions of MYAirline have the potential to impact over 100,000 people and result in a loss of more than RM20 million, a significant amount.
“It would be outrageous, in my opinion, if the government did not intervene and arrest the perpetrator,” Wee claimed. — DayakDaily
