“There should be no excuse that there were no instructions given regarding grass-cutting to a specific length, weeding works, back lane works, desilting or (removing) all earth from the drain or culverts, clearing or opening of weep hole or scupper drain cleaning,” said Wee during the council’s road verges maintenance and drains clearing briefing for contractors at the MBKS auditorium today.

According to him, the consistent upkeep of Kuching’s landscape is necessary to improve and ensure the safety of the residents by preventing further risks of flood, building a healthy environment, and enhancing the visual appeal of the city.

He later urged the contractors to cooperate as a team to understand further the public’s needs or requests in beautifying the city and keeping it clean and free from diseases.

“Do carry out your duties with high integrity and a good code of ethics to minimise non-compliance,” stressed Wee.

Apart from that, he also mentioned that they (contractors) must take their responsibilities seriously by periodically providing briefings and supervising their workers to ensure that the tasks are carried out according to the stated guidelines and conditions, besides preventing possible work safety hazards.

Wee also reminded contractors of their rights to voice out and submit any problems or issues they faced to the council to resolve the matter. — DayakDaily
