KUCHING, May 20: A total of 170 recipients received goodies from Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng in conjunction with Gawai Dayak.

The goodies were handed over to the recipients, comprised of family members from all the Dayak communities in the MBKS jurisdiction area, during the ‘Program Gawai Dayak MBKS Bersama Komuniti’ held at the MBKS lobby today.

Speaking during the ceremony, Wee said since Kuching is the City of Unity, it is a must to consider each festive celebration as an occasion to strengthen Sarawak’s unique culture.

According to Wee, at the same time, everyone gets to learn and celebrate the culture of other ethnicities.

“As we celebrate Gawai Dayak, we must also realise and regard the celebration as not only a special occasion for the Dayak community but as an opportunity to meet and recognise the positivity, belief and principles that can be found in a culture that may be different from our own,” he said. — DayakDaily
