KUCHING, July 14: Practising yoga could help to keep our bodies and minds healthy, which could contribute to bringing the nation forward, says Kuching City South Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

He said even a highly educated and talented person, without a healthy body and mind, cannot move forward as balance is vital.

“That is very simple and logical, and practising yoga could help us with that,” he said.

Wee said this while officiating the 10th United Nations (UN) International Day of Yoga 2024 celebration at Taman MBKS today.

The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Yoga at Home, Yoga with the World’ and was organised by the Brahma Kumaris Foundation Kuching Branch.

Wee added that getting a good piece of mind is not easy for anyone as people cannot control their minds except themselves.

He further opined that yoga can help as it is a practice that can unite our body with our mind. It is also for all religions, regardless of race or age.

“You should keep your body and your mind healthy. You cannot lose one to have a happy life. Yoga could unite our body, mind, humanity, and nature. So it is all in one,” he said.

At the same time, Wee reminded everyone that holding an event should bring wholesome benefits to the community in Kuching.

He urged other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to organise such good events for the public, especially our future leaders.

“Yoga is a source of strength, harmony, and peace and allows you to calm and reduce anxiety. Let us spread the good news and develop a disciplined and patient society.” — DayakDaily
