KUCHING, Sept 17: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng reminds pet owners to vaccinate their pets as the majority of rabies cases are now from pet dogs and cats.
Wee revealed that during the first week of September, there were two rabies cases, one on Foochow Road and the other at Lorong 8 in the Stapok Resettlement area, involving the owners’ pet dogs.
“A report was made yesterday about numerous wild dogs hiding in the forest near a supermarket in Stutong. One person was bitten.
“This morning, I dispatched personnel to monitor the area. The enforcement team reported yesterday that when they attempted to capture the wild dogs, the locals informed them they belonged to someone else.
“I told them it doesn’t matter, as long as those dogs are let loose outside the owner’s residence, we’ll have to capture them,” he said during his 181st ShallWeeTalk session streamed live on his official Facebook Page yesterday (Sept 16).
The mayor stated that if a person has five dogs within their property, they would exceed the three-dog limit per property.
“I truly hope that rabies will be eradicated from Sarawak one day. The majority of rabies cases are now caused by dogs and cats belonging to their owners. The same thing happened last week with a cat belonging to the owner.
“So, if you have dogs or cats as pets, please bring them to be vaccinated. It’s not very expensive.
“And if you prefer to have someone come to your home to vaccinate your pets, you can message me on WhatsApp at 010-6601919, and I can give you the number, as my family has also used them for in-home pet vaccinations. They have this service, provided you pay them,” he added. — DayakDaily
