KUCHING, March 23: In response to parents’ requests, the completion date of the traffic light system at the intersection of Jalan Setia Raja/Stutong has been brought forward to today.

Kuching South City Hall mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said prior to the reopening of schools on March 20, parents had requested for the activation of the traffic light system at the intersection of Jalan Setia Raja/Stutong to be sped up.

There are several schools in the vicinity, which include SMK Tabuan Jaya, Lodge Group of Schools and SJK Chung Hua No 2.

Understanding the parents’ plight where they have to send their children to school before rushing to work, Wee said their request was conveyed to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also Infrastructure and Port Development Minister.

“The completion date of the traffic light project here was slated to be done by the end of this month, but JKR Sarawak has rushed it for the road users, day and night, so that today, the traffic light can be activated to ease traffic flow.

“It was able to be completed a few days after schools reopened, but no doubt, this has brought about a lot of convenience for road users, especially the parents,” Wee told DayakDaily.

He said even though the project was under JKR Sarawak, as a local council, he has been trying to assist as best he could, believing that “we (MBKS and JKR Sarawak) are all one, including the public”.

“There is no use pointing fingers and taking a judgmental stand, instead it is important to work together to solve the issue as fast as we can for the people.”

He thanked the public for their patience and explained that for any project to be implemented, it is inevitable for some inconveniences to arise. — DayakDaily
