KUCHING, Oct 20: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has successfully created several new innovations as their initiative to ensure smooth operations and efficiency.
Among their innovations were Tugalizer by Southern Thinker Group, Camoflec by Peka Group, Qmunity App, i-People App, Document Digitalisation and Document Management System.
Speaking at the MBKS Innovation Week 2020 today, mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng reminded the council staff that innovative is the ‘in’ thing in the world of business management and administration of a local authority.
“We need to think outside the box and be able to see things that never were and ask why not. Some of the best inventions have come from someone taking a regular product and adapting it by thinking outside the box.
“To do that, it requires great strategic planning and that is what we need in our daily operations. These plannings require structures and resources to be aligned with strategic goals so that the public service is positioned to respond to external and future challenges,” Wee said.
He also reminded council staff to adopt a continual learning mindset, upgrade themselves and learn new skills.
Wee emphasised that those who rely on precedents and stick to the instruction manuals will not become innovative.
“Rehashing the old with new procedures and methodology may bring about greater efficiency, but it may not create new values,” he pointed out.
On the other hand, Wee acknowledged that over the past couple of decades, MBKS has devoted much time, energy and money towards improving various municipal facilities and services.
The public response he said, has been a mixture of appreciation, praise and gratitude as well as some degree of indifference.
“Whatever form of response, there is always a public demand for better facilities and services. We are constantly aware of our responsibilities, duties and remain committed to meet public demands. Conscientious steps are regularly being taken towards improving our various resources, such that it can ensure the best services,” Wee added.
Meanwhile, the Divine Will Society Kuching donated six hospital beds and 10 wheelchairs to MBKS today, which will be distributed to the less fortunate. – DayakDaily
