KUCHING, July 7: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng hopes to establish a friendship city relationship between Kuching South and Haikou of China.
In a statement today, Wee said the possibility was discussed with Vice Mayor of Haikou Municipal People’s Government of the People’s Republic of China Lu Min during a courtesy call at his office today.
According to him, the discussion revolved around the potential of exchanging knowledge on the Sustainable and Smart City concept that would benefit both cities.
He also briefed the Haikou delegation on the recognition by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) for Kuching City as City of Gastronomy.
“I hope that with such recognition, we will be able to create an opportunity for Kuching products to be promoted in cities like Haikou and enhance further collaboration in areas of economic, cultural, education and tourism,” he added. — DayakDaily
