KUCHING, Jan 26: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng joined councillors in distributing 1,000 bowls of Laba porridge to the public at Kenyalang Market this morning, drawing a warm response from market-goers and residents.
According to a press release, the porridge was prepared by the Seng Tong Buddhist Association as part of its annual community outreach programme, symbolising compassion, sharing and goodwill.
The initiative brought together volunteers and members of the public in a simple yet meaningful expression of cultural and spiritual values.
Wee reportedly said such activities reflect the spirit of unity and harmony in Kuching’s diverse society, while strengthening community bonds through acts of kindness.
He also expressed appreciation to the Seng Tong Buddhist Association for its continued commitment to serving the community and promoting positive values.
Members of the public welcomed the gesture, describing it as a timely reminder of compassion, gratitude and togetherness.
