KUCHING, Feb 8: Kuching has been recognised with the Angels Region Award, which is an international recognition of its city’s strong and coordinated approach to stroke care.
In a press release, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the achievement demonstrates that Kuching is on the right track, citing improved public awareness, rapid emergency response and hospitals that meet international standards in saving lives.
“This recognition belongs to the many dedicated people behind it. I sincerely thank our healthcare professionals, hospital teams, emergency responders, administrators, and partners who work tirelessly, often without recognition, but always with the safety and well-being of our people at heart,” he said.
While attending the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) 2025 appreciation night with Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian on Saturday (Feb 7), Wee also expressed appreciation to the Angels Initiative, the Health Ministry, SGH, and all local hospitals in making the achievement possible.
“This moment makes us proud, but it also reminds us of our responsibility. Kuching will continue to strengthen partnerships, invest in better healthcare systems and support initiatives that protect lives.
“Because when it comes to stroke care, every minute matters and every life matters,” he said. — DayakDaily
