KUCHING, Sept 25: Kuching South City Council (MKBS) looks to Guro District’s tech-driven welfare model, including the ‘Hyodol’ companion robot and digital elderly care, as it pushes forward to become both a child- and age-friendly city.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said during their study visit in Seoul at the Guro District Social Welfare Centre, MBKS’ journey towards being both child- and age-friendly will require new programmes, improved infrastructure, and cross-border knowledge exchange.
The welfare centre, which serves nearly 375,000 users annually, has also pioneered initiatives such as the Visiting Health and Welfare Rider Project and customised cognitive health programmes targeting elderly residents, vulnerable groups, and single-person households.
“What we have seen today in Guro District is a forward-looking model of community care where technology, inclusivity, and human compassion converge.
“This visit provides valuable insights as Kuching South advances its mission to create a city that nurtures both our young and elderly populations,” he said in a statement shared with the media.
The delegation also noted Guro’s strong public-private-academic partnerships, which integrate health, education and welfare services—a model seen as a roadmap for collaborative governance in Kuching South.
Also present were Deputy Mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili and Senior Assistant Secretary Lilian Liew. — DayakDaily
