KUCHING, Aug 5: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng is reminding visitors to Kuching Food Festival (KFF) 2023 to have fun and enjoy their visit, while also being on alert for any pickpockets or thieves.
He assured visitors that there are 12 police personnel on duty every night stationed outside the MBKS Dewan Masyarakat during KFF.
“Honestly, there is always pickpocketing everywhere, and MBKS have taken all the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the visitors coming to the festival.
“You can see that the police have apprehended one of these pickpockets which they believe operate in a team of three.
“I am sure the police will get the other two. We will clear out such criminals,” he told reporters during the MAGGI Grand finale and ‘Nailing Tikai, Jom Masak, Menang & Kongsi Bersama’ campaign held at Vivacity Shopping Mall today.
Earlier, Wee was asked to comment about a pickpocketing incident that took place on Wednesday night, where the culprit was soon apprehended by the police at the festival.
He advised visitors to be careful, and a warning had also been put out to alert members of the public.
“We want to create confidence and a lot of repeat visitors coming to KFF and that is why we speak to operators as we are encouraging them to give moral support and to make sure they continue to operate peacefully at the venue.” — DayakDaily
