KUCHING, Dec 22: Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) received an early Christmas present this year from the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) through the donation of 17 units of patient and visitor chairs.

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the donation was made through MBKS’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative and comprised seven patient treatment chairs and 10 visitor chairs, with a total value of RM12,000.

MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the contribution was made possible through the support of donors who collaborated with the council to enhance community welfare.

“Sometimes something that seems simple like a chair actually makes a big difference,” he said after handing over the contribution at the hospital earlier today.

Wee described the contribution as a meaningful gesture in conjunction with the Christmas season, adding that there are still many aspects in public hospitals that need improvement, not only in terms of facilities for patients, but also for doctors, nurses and patients’ family members.

He noted that the donation of the chairs is a result of the collaboration with several private companies that came forward to support efforts to care for the welfare of the community.

Companies involved in the contribution included Katimas Sdn Bhd, Acute Project Sdn Bhd, Sharing Planet Sdn Bhd, Megastanda Sdn Bhd, Ori Pasti Ori (Kuching) Sdn Bhd, Alfresco (Kuching) Sdn Bhd, HS Credit Corporation Sdn Bhd and Wan Li Wan Welding Works.

Meanwhile, SGH director, Dr Ngian Hie Ung expressed her gratitude to MBKS and the donors for the contribution.

She said that HUS is a hospital for all and still needs continuous support from various parties to improve the treatment environment and facilities technology.

“Despite the annual allocation from the Federal Government, the actual needs of the hospital are very large.

“Small contributions from the community can have a big impact on patient comfort,” she said. – DayakDaily
