KUCHING, March 5: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has officially kicked off drainage repair works at Lorong Chawan 3, covering around 300 metres of concrete drains.

MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng handed over the project site to the appointed contractor today, saying the upgrade is crucial to reduce water overflow and minimise flash flood risks, especially during heavy rain.

“The project reflects MBKS’ continuous effort to improve basic infrastructure and address residents’ concerns.

“Proper drainage is important to ensure safety, smooth traffic movement, and the overall well-being of the community,” he said in a statement.

The works involve repairing and reconstructing damaged drain sections, improving water flow, and carrying out other civil works to strengthen the area’s drainage system.

Also present at the site handover were MBKS Deputy City Secretary Taufiq Abdullah, Councillor Albert Tay, and Penghulu Tan Heng Kee.

Residents have been advised to expect temporary inconvenience during the four-month construction period.

MBKS will closely monitor the progress to ensure the works are completed on schedule and meet required standards. — DayakDaily
