KUCHING, Aug 18: Despite the heavy downpour, thousands still managed to show up to take part in the Mayor’s Walk 2024

Kuching City South Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng added that this year’s edition of the community programme saw more participants than last year’s.

“This event has experienced significant growth from a few thousand participants when it started to tens of thousands and more,” he said.

He said this during the flag-off of the walk by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian in the vicinity of MBKS Boulevard today.

Wee further elaborated that the Mayor’s Walk usually marks the end of the Kuching Food Festival at MBKS.

He added the Mayor’s Walk 2024 is a community event initiated to raise awareness of the importance of exercise for good health.

Wee also expressed his gratitude to everyone who attended and supported the event.

“As mayor, this is a challenge for me, and with the people’s support, I must do better.

“I want to thank all residents from Kuching, whether from (under the jurisdiction of) MBKS or Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), who participated in the walk for their confidence and commitment to the councils,” he said.

The Mayor’s Walk 2024 recorded more than 10,000 participants this year.
