Mavcom says MYAirline liable to refund travellers, sets up complaint channels for affected customers

Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom)

KUCHING, Oct 12: In light of MYAirline’s suspension of operations starting today (Oct 12) until further notice, the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has established hotlines and other communication channels to assist affected consumers.

In a press release issued by the local industry aviation regulator today, Mavcom urged those who have made bookings with MYAirline to contact the airline’s dedicated complaint channels for questions and help with regards to their booking at customercare@myairline.my.

Mavcom said affected consumers may also contact the Commission’s consumer hotline at 1-800-18-6966 (within Malaysia) or by email at consumers@mavcom.my.

They may also fill in the complaints web form at https://flysmart.my/make-a-complaint.

Alternatively, they may send feedback through the FlySmart mobile application that is available for download from the Google Play Store and Apple App store.

“The Commission stands firm that MYAirline is still liable to refund consumers who have purchased tickets with the airline but are unable to travel.

“Mavcom has instructed MYAirline to immediately manage affected consumers which include amongst others, notifying them of the suspension, publishing the said notification in the airline’s available communication channels.

“MYAirline has also been instructed by the Commission to immediately discontinue the sale and booking of flights from all booking platforms until further notice,” it said.

Mavcom said it has ordered MYAirline to stop all bookings and sales of its flights on all platforms until further notice.

“The Commission is in close communication with MYAirline in addressing this issue.

“Meanwhile, the Commission is currently investigating the airline based on internal reviews and complaints received regarding the airline’s unpaid statutory payments to its employees, amongst others.

“Mavcom will provide further developments with regard to MYAirline’s operations in due course,” it added.

Earlier this morning, MYAirline announced that it was suspending its operations with immediate effect until further notice, citing financial pressures as the reason for this abrupt decision.

The company has stated that the suspension is necessary as it awaits its shareholder restructuring and recapitalisation, which are crucial for ensuring its future stability.

MYAirline also told affected passengers not to head to the airport and to find alternative travel plans for their destinations. — DayakDaily
