KOTA SAMARAHAN, Dec 3: Immediate work would be done to repair dilapidated housing units in army camps here.

Defense Minister Mohamad Sabu (Mat Sabu) said, during his working visit to the Penrissen Camp earlier today, he took note of the dire needs and urgent repairs required for the dilapidated 40-year-old housing units at that camp, and would bring up the issue to his ministry for immediate solutions.

“We see if the existing allocation would be enough for the immediate repair works. If not, we (ministry) will apply for additional allocation in Parliament.

“We will do it (repair works) in parts. RM50 million has been approved for repair works nationwide. Our priority would be for the immediate (critical) ones first,” he told reporters after a working visit to the Muara Tuang Army Camp here this afternoon.

Mat Sabu also gave his assurance that all the grouses of Kuching’s army personnel have also been taken note of and would be deliberated by the ministry later.

Earlier today, he paid a courtesy call on Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, before visiting the Penrissen Camp and the Muara Tuang Camp.

This was his inaugural trip to the state as Defense Minister after Pakatan Harapan (PH) was elected as the federal government.

He was supposed to come to Sarawak in September but the trip was postponed due to Typhoon Mangkhut sweeping across the Philippines at the time. — DayakDaily
