KUCHING, May 7: Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Len Talif Salleh reveals that the Sarawak government through Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) is preparing a master plan for the redevelopment of Bukit Assek, Sibu.
Len elaborated that the final draft report is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2024 and will be submitted to the Sarawak Planning Council for consideration.
He added proposals to build affordable flats and houses (affordable housing) were also taken into account in the preparation of the master plan.
Len was responding to Bukit Assek assemblyman Chieng Jin Ek on a query on the flats and affordable apartments in Sibu within or near Bukit Assek Redevelopment Project before the redevelopment commences in 2026 at Dewan Undangan Sarawak (DUS) today.
He further explained to Chieng that the consultant for the project is doing a study on the Cloudburst Master Plan comprising three stages to be carried out. These stages are Flood Risk Assessment; Study Area Cloudburst Master Plan; and Detailed Master Plan For Bukit Assek.
“So far, the topographical survey in the field and the Stage 1 study to identify the flood risk area have been fully completed. Meanwhile, stage 2 and 3 studies are being carried out and are expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2024,” he further elaborated.
Explaining further, Len said in addition to the provision of affordable housing, other components such as commercial centres, government institutions, recreation centres, education, health and community facilities as well as public facilities will also be taken into account in the preparation of the master plan. — DayakDaily
