Maskat water supply project nears completion, to benefit over 3,500 residents in Bintulu

BINTULU, July 23: The construction of a booster pump station, water tank, and pipeline system in Maskat, which will benefit over 3,500 residents from 37 longhouses in Bintulu, is about 97.43 per cent complete.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said that the project is currently in the testing and commissioning phase.

He mentioned that the project, which costs nearly RM38 million, includes a new water tank with a capacity of 2 million liters.

He made these remarks during a site visit on Tuesday (July 23) to review the progress of the construction of the booster pump station and water tank.

Julaihi added that the project also includes a 450 mm ductile iron pipe system extending 18 kilometers from the Nyabau Water Treatment Plant to Simpang Sebauh, a booster station complete with a suction tank and the installation of 160 mm HDPE pipelines to supply water to longhouses in the area.

“This water project is part of the Sarawak Water Supply Grid System, which is being implemented by the Sarawak government using its own funds.

“The goal of the project is to ensure the stability and quality of the water supply in this area. It will benefit 37 longhouses, serving 3,745 residents from the Bintulu parliamentary constituency as well as Kemena and Samalaju areas,” he explained.

Also present during the site visit were Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) director Awang Mohamad Fadillah Awang Redzuan, JBALB deputy director Ahmad Selihin, and other government officials. — DayakDaily
