KUCHING, Nov 26: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing said he had no idea whether United People’s Party (UPP) had applied to join Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

He said he had not seen any letter from UPP to join the ruling coalition.

“It is just a rumour,” he said when asked to comment on this matter after he presented minor rural project (MPR) grants to several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in his office here today.

“I do not know yet of UPP’s application as there is also no invitation to the party and no discussion at the moment,” he said.

But Masing was quick to point out that GPS was not an “exclusive club”.

“Up to now, there is no application from any party. At the moment, the four parties are PBB (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu), PRS, SUPP (Sarawak United Peoples’ Party) and PDP (Progressive Democratic Party),” he said.

When pressed further on whether GPS would invite UPP to join GPS, Masing shared that such a matter needed to be discussed with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and leaders of the four component parties. — DayakDaily
