KUCHING, Aug 30: Cabinet members chosen by Prime Minister Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob are those ‘elected’ by Malaysians, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing.

According to Masing, it should be understood that the democratic system used in Malaysia does not easily allow for the best or brightest to be selected from among its citizens.

“It (the system) picks the most electable, and thus the people of different professions may get elected, such as ranging from businessmen to hawker sellers (sic), lawyers to farmers, teachers to medical practitioners and many others.

“If the voters elect brilliant people, then from the pool of brilliant people will the Prime Minister choose from, and likewise, if the voters chose ‘rubbish’, then that will be the pool he chooses from. It is the government that we chose,” he said in a statement today.

Masing also urged netizens to not be too harsh in criticising Ismail Sabri’s Cabinet selection.

He pointed out a Prime Minister in a democratic system must also be a ‘master juggler’ of talents and skills.

“Not only must he do the above (juggling), he must manage the pushes and pulls of those parties within his coalition,” he added. — DayakDaily
