KUCHING, Aug 19: The new federal government is urged to make history by allocating a deputy prime minister post to either Sarawak or Sabah, in acknowledging contributions of the two Borneon States.
This is the view of Parti Rakyat Sarawak president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing who opined that either one of the two Eastern states of Borneo should be given a deputy prime minister position, not one each, in recognition for what these two States did in contributing to form the government and thus stabilising Malaysian politics.
“This will be a history in the making. Ever since the formation of Malaysia, the two eastern States in Borneo were never acknowledged by Putrajaya for their contribution to make it possible to establish Malaysia as a Nation,” said Masing who is also Deputy Chief Minister.
Masing said if the deputy prime minister candidate is from Sarawak, the MP who will be chosen should fall under the decision of the leaders of the ruling coalition of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
“The contribution of Sarawak should be acknowledged by Putrajaya by appointing one MP from GPS as Deputy Prime Minister,” said Masing.
Masing pointed out that 18 MPs from GPS have helped to form the government twice; namely the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s government and now, possibly the Ismail Sabri’s government.
“For what the 18 MPs from GPS did, Sarawak wants Putrjaya to acknowledge their role in forming the government, by giving us (from Sarawak) a deputy prime minister position,” he said in a statement today. –DayakDaily.
