KUCHING, Aug 14: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing views Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s challenge to those who oppose him as ‘honest and honourable’.
He was referring to Muhyiddin’s special televised speech titled ‘Together in National Recovery’ yesterday which saw the latter present proposed reforms that would elevate the Opposition and obtain bipartisan support in exchange for the Opposition’s support during the vote of confidence regarding the premiership in Parliament next month.
This is so that the existing government can continue to manage the Covid-19 pandemic until the time comes for the people to elect a new government at the appropriate time.
Additionally, Muhyiddin pointed out that no single Member of Parliament (MP) commands the majority support of the House to enable the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to appoint a new prime minister.
“Muhyiddin has made an honest and honourable challenge to those who oppose him in a national television.
“It is as if he was saying ‘Please pick one among you who can command the majority in Parliament, I will resign’,” said Masing in a statement today.
Masing further said that Muhyiddin’s action goes beyond the latter’s willingness to resign from his post.
“Muhyiddin suggested to establish a unity government because Malaysia can’t afford to be government-less in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he added. — DayakDaily
