KUCHING, Apr 2: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) agrees with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari’s policy of allocating State Covid-19 fund to all 82 constituencies in Sarawak as the deadly virus “does not play politics”.
PRS president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing said the allocation of RM200,000 for 82 constituencies regardless of political divide was the correct approach by the Chief Minister because Covid-19 did not recognise political affiliation.
“It kills anyone within its reach – GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) or PH (Pakatan Harapan) supporters.
“It’s my hope that the opposition parties understand this invisible enemy and fight this battle together as humans residing in Sarawak,” said Masing.
Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Early Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah had announced yesterday that all Sarawak state constituencies will each be given RM200,000 to cater for the needs of target groups.
The allocation is part of the Sarawakku Sayang Covid-19 stimulus package which was launched by Abang Johari in view of economic slowdown and emergency needs across the state caused by the virus that has put one-quarter of the world population into lockdown.
Fatimah said the target groups are the needy households in both urban and rural areas who are badly affected by Movement Control Order (MCO).
For those state constituencies held by ruling coalition GPS, the divisional or district disaster committees consisting of the Residents, District Officers, government agencies and GPS state representatives and relevant NGOs will decide on the list of recipients.
For the constituencies held by the opposition, the allocations will be managed by the divisional or district disaster committees with the assistance of an appointed assemblyman from GPS. —DayakDaily
