HUBEI, Oct 30: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing recently led an entourage on an official working visit to Shuibuya Hydro Electric Power (HEP) Dam located on Qingjiang River, a tributary of the mighty Yangtze River in Hubei Province, China.

Masing, who is also Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation, said the Shuibuya HEP Dam is the tallest concrete rockfill dam in the world, measuring 223m in height.

He said the 1,840MW dam was built by China Gezhouba Group International Engineering Co. Ltd (CGGC) and was completed in 2008.

“The dam was built not only for power generation but also for flood mitigation. Since the dam was completed, the flood problem was solved,” he added.

The Shuibuya HEP Dam, he noted, was very similar to the Baleh HEP Dam, which is also built by the same company.

Among those in his entourage were his wife, Datin Sri Corrine Masing, parliamentarian Wilson Nyabong, Walikota Kapit Dato Philimon Nuing, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) secretary-general Dato Janang Bungsu, political secretary Nicholas Kudi and businessman Dato Jimmy Hii. — DayakDaily
