Marine Police seize smuggled diesel fuel from tanker in Miri

MIRI, Aug 6: A tanker carrying subsidised diesel without proper documentation was detained by the Marine Police Force Region 5 on Aug 5.

Miri Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu reported that the seizure occurred during ‘Op Taring Kontraban’ conducted by the Marine Intelligence Unit (URM) Tactical Headquarters in Miri, Sarawak around 12.30pm.

The operation involved one officer and four personnel, who intercepted the tanker-type truck with a capacity of 16,000 liters on the Bintulu-Miri Highway near the Miri Departmental Store Batu 8 Lambir.

Upon inspection, the driver admitted to transporting diesel oil without the necessary documentation.

The driver was unable to provide any documented evidence for the diesel, which is a violation under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

The seized truck, valued at approximately RM95,000, contained a 5,000-liter tank of diesel estimated to be worth RM19,000.

The total value of the seizure amounted to RM 114,000.

All confiscated items, along with the arrested driver, have been handed over to Miri’s Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) investigating officer for further investigation and action.

The case is currently under investigation for offenses under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. — DayakDaily
