SIBU, April 12: The State Region 5 Marine Police force detained a cargo ship and arrested three men including the captain of the ship for carrying 200,000 litres of diesel.

Assistant commissioner Zulfikar Mohd Ghazali said the arrests and seizures were made by a team from the force’s marine intelligence unit at Batang Rajang at 12.10am today.

He said during an inspection, the 43-year-old captain of the cargo ship admitted to carrying a load of 200,000 litres of diesel oil stored in the belly of the ship.

“The skipper failed to submit any documented evidence of permission to own, store and carry controlled items without a permit, licence or special permission from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Consumer Affairs (Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs),” he added.

Zulfikar said, his party then seized the ship worth RM1.5 million and diesel oil estimated to be worth RM430,000.

Apart from that, two bulldozers on the deck of the ship worth RM500,000 were also confiscated.
