LUNDU, Nov 16: Many infrastructure projects in Sarawak have been completed within their allocated budgets, marking a significant achievement in project execution.
Federal Minister of Works, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, acknowledged that while there have been instances of cost overruns in the state, they are few and far between, thanks to stringent control measures and improved procedures.
“There are cases of exceeding costs, but not many. This is because we have implemented stricter control measures and made improvements to certain procedures.
“I’m proud to note that most of our projects are completed on time and within budget,” he said during the handing over of the SMK Lundu and SMK Padawan upgrading projects at SMK Lundu here today.
Nanta also commended the timely completion of both the SMK Lundu and SMK Padawan projects, noting that they had been completed in line with the contract terms and within the stipulated cost.
The RM24 million SMK Lundu project, which began on April 25, 2022, was fully completed on September 5. It included the construction of an academic block with offices, 12 classrooms, a computer lab, a workshop, storage rooms, and other facilities such as a multi-purpose court for badminton, sepak takraw, volleyball, basketball, and netball.
Meanwhile, the RM12.2 million SMK Padawan project, which started on March 17, 2022, was completed on October 4. This project involved a two-storey building with 10 classrooms, and science labs for chemistry, physics, and biology.
He further highlighted the recent completion of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Complex in Miri as another example of a project delivered on time and within the approved budget.
“This demonstrates Sarawak’s impressive capacity to complete projects,” he remarked.
Nanta expressed his appreciation to the contractors for their commitment and excellent performance, stating that their efforts played a vital role in delivering infrastructure projects that benefit the people. — DayakDaily
