SIBU, Feb 3: A man’s Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration took a turn for the worse when a vehicle belonging to his company went missing.
The man had parked the four-wheel-drive vehicle behind a hotel at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and found it gone at 7.30am on Tuesday, the first day of CNY (Feb 1).
The 67-year-old complainant, who is a supervisor at an oil palm plantation in Mukah, had earlier stayed a night at the hotel.
He said that before the incident, he had taken safety measures in securing the vehicle.
“I decided to stay at the hotel and park the car there because my house at Jalan Merdeka is full of children returning to celebrate the Chinese New Year. I did not expect it to become like this,” he said.
He said he had lodged a police report over the incident at the Sibu Central Hall and the loss was estimated at RM50,000.
Meanwhile, Acting Sibu District Police Chief, Superintendent Dr Collin Babat when contacted confirmed the incident.
He said the police investigation did not locate any closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the scene.
“The results of the police monitoring in the surrounding area found that there was only one house opposite the hotel that had CCTV. We are now actively searching for the vehicle,ā he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft. ā DayakDaily
