SIBU, Sept 21: The Magistrate’s Court today fined a manager of an engineering firm RM10,000 in default of one month’s jail for each of the five illegal immigrants he employed.
The accused, Lau Guan Bing, 51, pleaded guilty to the charges under Section 55B (1) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963.
The Section provides for a fine of not less than RM10,000 and not more than RM50,000, or imprisonment not exceeding 12 months or both for each employee.
According to the brief facts of the case, a team of immigration officers from Kuching had at about 11.50am on August 24 conducted a special operation on an engineering firm at Jalan Ding Lik Kong.
Upon investigation, it was found out that the company had hired two Indonesians, two Indians and a Pakistani who did not have valid passes.
The illegal immigrants were subsequently arrested for further investigation. — DayakDaily
