Man with nine criminal records arrested again after testing positive for drugs in Kabong

KUCHING, Jan 21: A 27-year-old local man with nine previous criminal and drug-related records was arrested again after testing positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine during a police operation in Kabong yesterday (Jan 20).

According to a TVS news report, Saratok District Police Chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the suspect was detained by a team of officers and personnel from the Criminal Investigation Division and the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of Saratok District Police Headquarters (IPD Saratok) following intelligence received by the police.

“Acting on the information, a police team led by an officer conducted checks on a man suspected of being involved in drug abuse,” he said in a statement.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and brought to the Saratok Police Station for further investigation and crime prevention measures.

Mathew said urine screening tests conducted on the man showed positive results for both amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“Further checks revealed that the suspect has nine prior records related to criminal and drug offences,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a penalty of a fine not exceeding RM5,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both, upon conviction.

Mathew stressed that the police will not compromise on any form of drug abuse and will continue to intensify operations and enforcement efforts to curb such activities in the district.

He also urged the public to channel any information related to drug activities to the police to assist in safeguarding the safety and wellbeing of the local community. — DayakDaily
