“They were detained in Johor Bahru, Johor, and Gemencheh, Negeri Sembilan, within 48 hours of receiving the police report.

“All three suspects are believed to have known the victim,” he said in a statement today.

A remand application for all suspects was filed this morning at the Sessions Court to facilitate further investigation.

Norhizam added that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

He also urged the public not to speculate or disseminate false information that could interfere with the investigation, and to refrain from taking any actions that may violate the law.

The victim, identified as Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara, was found unconscious by a friend at around 10am on Tuesday (June 24) and was confirmed dead shortly after police arrived at the scene.

Originally from Kuching, Maniishapriet was a Bachelor of Physiotherapy student at the University of Cyberjaya.

Norhizam stated that there were no signs of forced entry or sexual assault, but the victim had suffered head injuries consistent with blunt force trauma.

Several of the victim’s belongings—including a laptop, mobile phone, ATM card, and cash—were reported missing. Investigators also detected multiple transactions made using the victim’s ATM card after her death.

The incident has sparked widespread concern on social media, with many members of the public questioning the safety and security of student accommodations. — DayakDaily
