Man slapped with RM2,500 fine for recording shower session of 19yo victim

KUCHING, Feb 16: A kitchen helper was sentenced to a fine of RM2,500 on a charge of insulting the modesty of a girl by secretly recording her when she was showering.

Simon Ragon, 31, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 509 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar.

Magistrate Zaiton convicted him as charged and sentenced him to a fine of RM2,500 or in default to five months imprisonment.

The accused was found to have insulted the modesty of the 19-year-old female victim by secretly recording the victim while she was showering at a workers’ hostel at Gala City, at about 12.51pm on Feb 12.

According to the brief facts of the case, the accused secretly recorded the victim while she was showering through a modified camera and the camera was connected to the accused’s phone.

The accused placed the modified camera at the window of the toilet.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
