Man sent to the gallows for girlfriend’s murder

KUCHING, June 10: The High Court here found a man charged with the murder of his girlfriend guilty and sentenced the man to death by hanging.

High Court Judge Lee Heng Cheong found that the defence has failed to prove the accused’s defence of sudden and grave provocation on a balance of probabilities and has also failed to raise a reasonable doubt in the prosecution’s case for murder.

Salman Kassim was found guilty under Section 302 of the Penal Code of the charge of killing Sindan Atom between 1.30am and 3.30am on March 24, 2017 in a room on the second floor of a commercial building at Mile 4, Jalan Penrissen.


It is reported that the victim, 24, was found dead at the scene with multiple stab wounds to her body.

From the post-mortem report tendered, the deceased had been stabbed three times in the neck which caused her death. All in all, the deceased suffered 11 injuries which included the three stab wounds to the neck.

Section 302 of the Penal Code carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
