Man sentenced to 12-months’ jail for punching, threatening wife over suspected infidelity

KUCHING, Sept 27: A 23-year-old man who assaulted his wife after suspecting her of infidelity has been sentenced to 12-months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court today.

The accused, Gilbert, a food stall worker, pleaded guilty to two charges presented before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.

The first charge, under Section 506 of the Penal Code, involved issuing criminal threats against his 23-year-old wife.

The second charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 326A, was for intentionally causing harm to his wife.

The incident occurred at around 4.15am on Sept 24, in a rented room above a shop on Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim.

The court sentenced Gilbert to six months imprisonment for the first offence and 12 months for the second, with the sentences to run concurrently.

According to case details, Gilbert assaulted and threatened his wife after suspecting her of having an affair and reportedly made a threatening remark in Iban.

The victim, who sustained bruising around her eye, filed a police report following the assault, leading to Gilbert’s arrest on Sept 25.

Inspector Nur Ain Wong prosecuted the case, while the defendant appeared without legal representation. — DayakDaily
