Man rescued from 10-metre deep quarry, suffers neck injuries

KUCHING, Dec 31: A 25-year-old man was rescued from a 10-metre-deep quarry along Jalan Kuching-Serian on Tuesday evening, and was found sustaining an injury to his neck.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, a distress call was received at 6.30pm, prompting a team from BBP Siburan to be dispatched. The team arrived at the scene at 6.40pm, approximately nine kilometres from the station.

The victim was found in a weakened state at the bottom of the quarry with bleeding from a neck wound. Firefighters used a rope anchor system (3:1) to stabilise him before carefully lifting him to safety on a stretcher.

The victim received immediate treatment from the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team on site and was later handed over to the Ministry of Health (KKM) ambulance for further medical care.

The rescue operation involved five firefighters, one FRT unit, one EMRS unit, and a Hilux vehicle. Police and KKM personnel were also on site, with 12 police officers and three KKM staff assisting the operation. The entire operation was completed by 7.35pm. – DayakDaily
