Man posing as cop arrested over Similajau robbery and rape

KUCHING, Nov 5: Police have arrested a local man in his early 50s believed to be involved in a robbery and rape case involving a local woman at Similajau Forest Reserve here on Oct 29.

According to a TVS news report, Bintulu District Police Chief, Superintendent Nixon Joshua Ali, said initial investigations revealed that the suspect had impersonated a police officer and deceived the victim by offering financial assistance before taking her to the scene of the incident.

“The suspect then seized the victim’s mobile phone and raped her. Following five days of intelligence work beginning Oct 30, police successfully traced and arrested the suspect in Sibu at around 2.30pm today,” he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 392 (robbery), Section 376 (rape), and Section 170 (impersonating a public servant) of the Penal Code.

Nixon reminded members of the public to remain vigilant and not to trust individuals claiming to be enforcement officers without proper verification.  — DayakDaily
