MIRI, Sept 28: A local man in his 40s who works as a driver in Miri, lost RM6,500 after falling for a car-for-sale scam.

According to Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu in a statement today, the scam took place from August 26 to September 20 this year.

The victim spotted a sedan car for sale at a cheap price on Facebook and had contacted the listed seller.

After some discussion, the victim agreed to the offered price and made six online transactions to five different bank accounts.

“The victim had also submitted his personal documents to the so called ‘car seller agent’,” Alexson added.

However, after giving all his cash to the ‘car agent’, the victim still failed to receive the purchased second-hand car.

“The victim had also tried to call the car seller, but his calls were not answered, then he realised that he has been scammed,” Alexson said.

A police report was subsequently lodged on September 27. — DayakDaily
