Man killed after being hit by car on pedestrian lane at Batu Kitang bridge

KUCHING, Sept 11: A late-night crash claimed the life of a pedestrian after he was hit by a car on the Batu Kitang bridge at KM17 Bau-Kuching yesterday.

Bau district police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the incident occurred around 11pm when a Perodua Bezza travelling from Kuching towards Bau struck the victim who was walking along the pedestrian lane.

“Preliminary checks found the male victim lying motionless on the walkway. He was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel from Kota Sentosa Hospital,” he said in a statement today.

The car driver escaped unharmed.

Police have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, and investigations are ongoing.

Authorities urged anyone with information on the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation by contacting the nearest police station.

Mohd Haide also reminded motorists to exercise extra caution while driving, especially in uncertain weather conditions, and to ensure vehicles are in good working order. — DayakDaily
