KUCHING, Feb 27: A man has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Magistrate’s Court today for stealing a motorcycle at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here last November.

Mohamad Zaidel Sidi, 40, pleaded guilty after he was charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same Code, which carries a minimum sentence of one year and a maximum of seven years, and also imposes a fine upon conviction.

According to the charge, the accused along with another man, who remains at large, were accused of stealing a motorcycle belonging to a 43-year-old male complainant on Nov 1, 2023, between 8am and 1pm at the motorcycle parking lot at SGH here.

The facts of the case revealed that the complainant realised his motorcycle, parked in the sheltered parking area at HUS, had disappeared.

A police report was lodged, and investigations led to the arrest of the accused.

Additionally, investigations revealed that the motorcycle had been repainted. However, thorough police examination found that the chassis and engine numbers matched those of the complainant’s motorcycle.

The prosecution was conducted by ASP Arman Ibrahim before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali, while the accused was not represented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
