Man injured after trying to put out fire at workers’ barrack

A water tank nearby was also damaged due to heat from the flame.

MUKAH, Jan 5: A man suffered minor injuries after trying to put out a fire that razed a workers’ barrack at a plantation in Balingian here yesterday.

The Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call of the incident at around 11.19pm. Firefighters from the Mukah fire station were dispatched to the quarters at Jalan Mukah.

“After arriving at the scene, firefighters found that the 12-door housing block was destroyed 100 per cent.


“One of the occupant was injured in the hand after he tried to put out the flame, and was sent to the hospital by the public,” Sarawak Fire and Rescue operations centre said in a statement.

It was understood that the fire had affected 25 people from 12 families.
