Man hits 4 cars and crashes on Samarahan Expressway, remanded for pointing knife at police

KOTA SAMARAHAN, Oct 7: A man who acted aggressively by brandishing a knife at the police during a road accident on the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway near La Promenade here on Saturday (Oct 5), has been remanded for further investigation starting yesterday (Oct 6).

Samarahan District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Jaimi Husin said the 24-year-old suspect was allegedly driving a Myvi from Kuching heading to Kota Samarahan around 11.35am.

He then hit four other vehicles causing him to lose control of his own and crashed into a ditch.

“The patrolling police officers arrived at the scene and attempted to assist the driver involved.

“As the officers tried to extract the man, who was the driver of the vehicle, he suddenly brandished a knife at the officers on duty.

“The man initially failed to cooperate but he was successfully apprehended with the help of firefighters who were also at the location,” Jaimi said in a statement.

The suspect has been arrested and the knife used by the suspect was also confiscated.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 and Section 506 of the Penal Code, and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958. — DayakDaily
