SIBU, Jan 19: A man learned a hard lesson after he was sentenced to three years’ jail and fined RM10,000 by the Magistrate’s Court today for breaking the screens of a cash deposit machine and two automated teller machines of a bank using a hammer.
The accused, Jaquclyn Vosco, 37, was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code for the offence.
The section provides for an imprisonment term of not less than one year and not more than five years and a fine if convicted.
According to the charge sheet, the accused had at about 9.30pm on Jan 15, 2023, used a hammer to break the screens of the three machines of a bank in Jalan Kampung Nyabor.
This resulted in the bank to incur repair costs totalling RM35,000.
The act was captured on video by the bank’s closed-circuit television cameras.
A staff of the bank was alerted by the loud siren in the room where the machines were located.
Following a police report, the accused was arrested the next day at his house in Tanjung Latap. ā DayakDaily
