KUCHING, Aug 22: A man who violently attacked his father while the latter was performing the evening Isyak prayer, striking his head three times, has been handed a three-month prison term by the Magistrates’ Court here today.
Azzamuden Sahmat, aged 27, pleaded guilty to a charge presented before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
According to the charge, he deliberately caused injuries to his 71-year-old biological father at their residence in Taman Malihah, Matang, at around 8.15 pm on July 2.
Consequently, the accused was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same code.
The court ruled that the accused would commence his prison sentence with immediate effect.
Based on the case details, during the Isyak prayer, as the complainant was engaged in his religious observance, the accused unexpectedly pushed and struck his father’s head against his shoulder three times.
After completing the Isyak prayer, as the complainant attempted to rise, the accused once again turned aggressive by grabbing the victim’s neck from behind.
Fearful of the situation, the complainant managed to free himself and quickly fled to the neighboring house, which belonged to another one of his children.
As a result of the incident, the complainant suffered pain in his right shoulder and discomfort in the left side of his jawbone.
It is understood that the accused committed the acts under the influence of the drug substance known as “syabu” (methamphetamine) and was not fully conscious of his actions towards his father.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin appealed to the court for a suitable sentence to be imposed as a lesson to the accused. — DayakDaily
