KUCHING, May 15: A Magistrate’s Court, here, today sent a man to jail for 2 years and to be punished with one stroke of the rotan after he pleaded guilty to outraging the modesty of a woman.
Accused Mahli Jemi, 36, committed the offence on May 10, 2019, at about 3pm at a rented house in Jalan Sungai Apong. He used criminal force to outrage the modesty of the 25-year-old victim who was sleeping in her room.
Mahli was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years or with fine or with whipping or with any two of such punishments if convicted.
According to the facts of the case, the complainant said she was awakened from her nap when she felt someone hugging her.
When she opened her eyes, she saw the accused who was naked and hugging her body.
The victim then rushed out of the room and screamed for help.
Officer Nelson Ensit prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented. — DayakDaily
