KUCHING, July 8: The Sessions Court here sentenced a father to 10 years’ imprisonment and three strokes of the cane for sexually assaulting his 9 years old daughter.
The 36-year-old accused pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 read together with Section 16 of the same Act, which provides an imprisonment term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction, while Section 16 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 provides an imprisonment term of up to five years with a minimum of two strokes of the cane upon conviction.
Sessions Court Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad accepted his guilty plea and convicted him as charged.
Judge Dayang also ordered the imprisonment term to run consecutively and further ordered the accused to undergo rehabilitative counseling within the period of detention under Section 26(1) of the Act and a supervision period of two years commencing immediately after the expiry of the sentence passed on him under Section17(1) of the same Act.
He was found guilty of sexually assaulting his daughter by molesting her private parts while bathing her at their house in Petra Jaya on July 4.
The victim then complained to her mother that there was pain in her private parts at about 3pm on the same day, after which the latter lodged a police report over the matter.
The accused was arrested at about 8pm. — DayakDaily
