Man found dead after vehicle plunges into Sg Baong

The body was found inside the sunken car which had earlier plunged into the river.

MIRI, March 9: A man from Pujut 1 here was killed last night when his Perodua Kembara veered off road and landed in the Sungai Baong river mouth near Kampung Pulau Melayu.

According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, a team of firefighters from Bomba Lopeng fire station led by PKPgB Terry Robson Fronce Nganggau and including personnel from the Water Rescue Unit (PPDA) were deployed to the scene after responding to an alert on the incident around 8.33pm to locate and extricate the 39-year-old driver from his vehicle.


State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu disclosed that the man’s vehicle was moving at high-speed before it plunged into the river.

“The man’s body was found 10 minutes after midnight by the PPDA team” he added.

The victim’s vehicle being pulled out from the river.

The body has been taken to the Miri Hospital morgue, while the sunken car was towed out from the river around 1am today.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, disclosed Alexson.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
