KUCHING, Dec 18: A 42-year-old man who went missing while searching for mud creepers (Siput Sedut) at Pantai Jaie, Asajaya was found alive after an extensive search and rescue (SAR) operation but passed away later in the afternoon, authorities confirmed.
According to a report by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Hamizan Rahmat, a resident of Kampung Pindah Jaie, Sadong Jaya, was reported missing yesterday (Dec 17) after failing to return home following a morning excursion to Pantai Jaie, Sadong Jaya.
The family discovered his bicycle parked near the beach around 6.30pm and, after two hours of unsuccessful searching, lodged a police report for further assistance.
The SAR operation, led by PBK I Zaidel bin Zailani, head of Bomba Asajaya, commenced today with a team of seven members.
At around 12.50pm, the team found the missing victim in a weak condition in a bush area approximately 500metres away from the SAR centre. He was immediately assisted and brought to a safe area.
According to the latest reports from Sarawak Bomba, Hamizan was later confirmed deceased at 3pm following an examination by the Ministry of Health, who were present at the scene.
The victim’s body was handed over to the police for further action. – DayakDaily
