Man fined RM3,000 for scratching company-owned SUV due to dissatisfaction with JPJ report

KUCHING, Sept 10: A 47-year-old man from Bintulu was fined RM3,000 or sentenced to 12-months’ in jail by the Magistrate’s Court for intentionally scratching a sports utility vehicle (SUV), causing damage estimated at RM300.

Wong Jing Wen pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief that resulted in property damage. The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.

According to the charge sheet, Wong was accused of deliberately damaging a Toyota Fortuner SUV belonging to a company in front of a supermarket at Moyan, Jalan Batu Kawah-Matang, at around 3pm on Sept 3.

The case details revealed that the complainant had parked the company vehicle in a public parking space at the supermarket.

Upon returning home and inspecting the vehicle, the complainant discovered scratches on the front left passenger side, believed to have been caused by an unknown individual.

A police report was lodged, and subsequent investigations led to Wong’s arrest at a premises in Batu Kawah on Sept 5 at approximately 11.40am.

Investigations revealed that Wong had scratched the complainant’s vehicle, with evidence from the car’s dashcam recording identifying him as the perpetrator.

It was understood that Wong acted out of dissatisfaction after the vehicle owner had previously reported his car to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for using tinted windows.

Before the incident, Wong had blocked the complainant’s vehicle and taken several photos of it.

The case was prosecuted by Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while Wong was not represented by a lawyer. — DayakDaily
